this photo was taken by vice polska as part of coverage of the (utterly amazing) off festival some weeks ago. it shows me sitting in the backstage area preparing the samples for the kyst show.
adam repucha, who pointed me to it, turned out to know what’s really going on in the photo, letting me know in the subject field of his email:
“touchy mob in front of his minimalistic, glamorous cabin in northern nebraska prepares to download whole internet into one fingernail-sized oak leaf”
touchy mob is still shipwrecked, undressed by evil computer thieves, naked from nearly all of last year’s work. so the last two weeks were spent in heat to put some bouncy loops on unfinished songs and deficient lyrics. cause there was a show to play last friday (it was fun) and there is one to play TONIGHT in BERLIN! on one of the infamous M:SOUNDTRACK thursday nights at SCHOKOLADEN. stage shared with LAURA STEVENSON of LAURA STEVENSON AND THE CANS! be easy, drub your foot a bit on the wooden grandstand.
i met the wonderful bear in heaven people at off festival in katowice and saw their show and was won over (i never really took the time for the record back when it came out, now: beast rest forth mouth all-o’clock) by their eternal groove, by the time they take to stick the psychedelic and the rhythmic and the weirdly catchy really deep into the ones listening. saw them again in haldern and it just grew deeper again. go see them, when they’re in ol’ slutty europe next time (they just left)! now i had the pleasure to remix one of their songs. listen/download below. you might notice, that jon philpot’s voice sounds shockingly similar to karin andersson of the knife / fever ray in this song. that might have prolly been the reason, why this remix turned out to get so 2007-ish (the year of the reign of this). apart from this: my remix for talking to turtles will be released as part of a remix album they’re putting together an the one i did for hundreds will be on their upcoming single. i’m becoming a remix nerd. help! rave!
… puh. and now i’m having a gin and blackcurrant juice and take a walk, slaloming the lanterns on the promenade.
there’s a story in the lyrics that might seem weird, the photo above serves as proof. on the azore island of faial there is a huge ancient volcano crater, it’s forbidden to enter it in order to preserve the flora and fauna on it’s ground. i just saw some cows, climbing up the hill, lonely and slow, and then serpentining down into the crater, getting slower and slower, sitting down to die (similar to this elephant graveyard thing). and on the ground of this crater, seen from the southern in the low right corner something carved the letters DJ in perfectly neat bold arial letters into the grass. if you click the image there is larger version to check it out. schlaft gut freunde.
had some nice days in wroclaw with the kystboys recording for our/their new LP, coming soon. or have an afternoon beer with us at OFF’s experimental stage right before tallest man on earth on sunday, the eighth of august.
hey monday. please do a little hop over to YEAH IT’S NICE MIXOTHEQUE to listen to the (downloadable) little mix i made for them. containing a new piece using CARIBOU’s sun mantra again, as well as versions of This Is An Icy Place, Sexy Yirls, Winter Garden II, Ferrytale and HOT SHERPA’s Uptro, all made extra for this (and partly featured on the aforementioned Yeah EP) . and check out the deep artwork. this is how we germans are received across borders:
